The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has officially launched its search for a Prime Integrator to manage the building of a brand-new Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, marking a major milestone in FAA modernization. This initiative is designed to enhance safety, improve efficiency, and equip air traffic controllers with the advanced technology they need to keep America’s skies running smoothly.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy emphasized that this expedited process reflects the FAA’s commitment to results: “This is the next important step to making our skies safer and air travel more efficient. To avoid the missed deadlines and mistakes of the past, we’ve designed an innovative process to select and contract with one Prime Integrator.” The procurement process includes a first-of-its-kind federal contract that incentivizes performance and holds the integrator accountable for timely delivery.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford echoed this forward-looking vision: “Thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill, we have the down payment to start building a new system. The next step is getting the integrator on board, and we are on track. We are ready to get to work to make sure our controllers have the very best technology.”

The Prime Integrator will oversee the deployment of state-of-the-art technology, including upgrades to radar, software, hardware, and telecommunications networks across the National Airspace System. By modernizing this critical infrastructure, the FAA will reduce delays, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen safety for pilots, controllers, and travelers alike.
